Description

Llandovery College is a small independent day and boarding school situated in Carmarthenshire on the edge of the Brecon Beacons. It consists of Preparatory and Senior Schools with a combined number of 300 pupils.

We are seeking a highly motivated, independent intern to work closely with us to help build sustainability and harmony projects throughout the College, particularly in our Prep School.

Llandovery College Prep School is already incorporating the Harmony principles into its curriculum. We believe that everything starts with the story of food, and we have so far created three growing sites where the children sow, grow and harvest fruit and vegetables to cook and eat. We are working towards a curriculum through which our pupils learn that the world’s systems are interconnected, developing a holistic understanding of the issues faced currently in relation to food production, the natural environment and the care that future generations need to give to these.

We plan to place a bigger emphasis on our food production, working with the local community, building links with other organisations, applying the principles of Harmony in the classroom and reducing our carbon footprint.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and hard-working intern to help us in the development of these projects. This will also be an excellent opportunity to increase experience and strengthen credentials if you wish to pursue a career as a grower or work in sustainability or education.

Key responsibilities

  • Assisting with food production at the various growing sites
  • Researching trips to local organisations
  • Helping in the classroom with sustainability and Harmony lessons
  • Working closely with members of staff to create and deliver exciting projects
  • Supporting the development of sustainable enterprises
  • Documenting the projects through notes and photographs

Qualifications and experience

We are seeking applicants who share a belief in our core responsibilities, and who possess an ability to communicate in powerful and engaging ways. We are looking for candidates who can demonstrate the following:

  • Excellent organisational skills and record keeping
  • A good understanding of gardening and horticulture
  • Excellent communication skills
  • An ability to work with children
  • A positive and enthusiastic attitude

Selection process

Applicants will be invited to the College for an interview and tour of our campus in the week beginning 19 March.

If you would like to apply for this exciting opportunity please fill out the application form and send it, along with your CV, to Huw Richards, hrp@llandoverycollege.com

Llandovery College is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

This appointment will be conditional on successful pre-employment and enhanced DBS checks.
