Dr Barbara Gemmill-Herren was the previous Delivery Manager, Major Area of Work on Ecosystem Services and Biodiversity for Food and Agriculture at the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).
She lived and worked in Africa for over 25 years, including as director of Environment Liaison Centre International, an international environmental non-governmental organization based in Nairobi, Kenya and as honorary lecturer in Plant Ecology at University of Nairobi, Kenya.
Within the FAO, she built a global project on Pollination Services, implemented in Brazil, Ghana, Kenya, South Africa, India, Pakistan and Nepal. For the last four years, she has been responsible for the FAO’s work on Ecosystem Services in Agricultural Production, and has contributed to FAO’s new focus on agroecology. She is currently working as a consultant to ICRAF, with a continued focus on agroecology.
