SFT Policy Director, Richard Young, has been campaigning on the misuse of antibiotics in agriculture for nearly 20 years. Rising levels of antimicrobial resistance are a significant threat, not only to human health, but also to farmers’ long-term ability to treat infectious diseases in their animals.

Richard has recently been involved in helping to found the Antibiotic Resistance Coalition (ARC), an alliance of concerned civil society organisations from across six continents. The alliance has released a declaration outlining its concerns over the lack of leadership and effective action in response to the current crisis and has called on World Health Organisation Member States to do more to tackle the growing threat of antibiotic resistance.

Along with the Alliance to Save Our Antibiotics, of which the SFT is a member, we also campaign for further restrictions on the way in which antibiotics are currently used on intensive farms in the UK and within Europe.
