Are you a recent graduate looking to gain valuable experience in building a social movement? The Real Food Challenge is inviting applications for their 14 month Fellowship Programme, offering coaching and support to passionate and self-motivated individuals, who want to improve their leadership skills and expand their knowledge of food systems.

Based in the US, the programme offers fellows a unique opportunity to gain direct experience in the campaigning and organising needed to build a movement. This year’s fellows will focus on projects relating to the Real Food Movement, including direct coaching, training and on-the-ground support to campuses where real food campaigns are in progress, helping to develop the Real Food Calculator, planning regional and national gatherings, not to mention organising fundraising events, developing and executing social media strategies, and building campaigns.

The curriculum is broken down into two categories: Leadership and Organising, and Food Systems. A small selection of the topics covered include storytelling and public narrative, grassroots fundraising, campaign planning, leadership development, history of food movements, fair trade and direct trade, and distribution and supply chains. The programme is designed to give fellows a greater understanding of our the complexity of our food systems, and take-away a whole toolbox of practical, organisational and movement building skills.

The programme runs between July 2014 and August 2015. Fellows will usually work in teams of two or more, with supervision from a member of staff, but will also take part in monthly discussions with all other fellows. Participants will also engage in a quarterly review, allowing fellows the chance to review campaign outcomes, but also to reflect on their individual progress. A stipend of $2000 is available in two instalments during the year and all pre-approved expenses and travel will be reimbursed.

Applications are now being accepted for the 2014-2015 fellowships. But be quick, the second application deadline is Sunday 23rd March. For information on how to apply, visit
