In this Farm Gate podcast, ffinlo Costain speaks to leaders of the food and farming community about their ideas for reform. Patrick Holden says that UK farmers have become commodity slaves, trapped by dishonest food pricing in an ever-escalating downward cycle towards industrial farming. He argues that if we are to address the triple challenges of climate change, biodiversity catastrophe and the crisis in public health, we need top down action supported by market interventions in order to enable farmers to switch to sustainable production systems by 2040. This can be done if we re-direct payments to reward sustainable farming practices.
